Education is a girl's right too!
Why Girl Empowerment?
Did you know that 1 out of 5 girls are out of school for reasons such as Distance, Cost, Culture, and Famine? As a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Girl Empowerment aims to bridge this divide by providing girls access to schools, improving sanitation facilities, and giving moral support to girls.
My journey started in 6th grade when I received a book about Malala, which helped me see the various problems girls my age face in developing countries. I understood the meaning and need for girl empowerment. Through reading and personal experience traveling in India, I came across the causes of girls being unable to get proper education, including lack of adequate sanitation and the need to travel long distances to attend school.
During the pandemic, we heard about a family whose daughters couldn't attend school due to a lack of transport and couldn't attend online classes because they could not afford the technology. As a result, we bought Android tablets for the girls to attend and listen to their classes.
Being a girl, I was excited to help my fellow girls continue their education. The eagerness of these girls to learn English, as they wanted to communicate with me, inspired me. How many girls wish to study and grow out of school if this is the state of just two girls? Through Girl Empowerment, I want to give options to girls to go to school, have proper sanitation in schools, encourage girls to go to school, and break the belief that girls don't need education.
My Goal
My goal for this organization is to empower girls to gain proper education and compete on par with the other genders. To achieve this, our organization will work to increase girls' access to education, have adequate sanitation at schools and strengthen girls' mental attitude toward attending school.
Together with local partners, we aim to provide girls with a package containing the necessary school supplies and pictorial material to give an essential awareness of good sanitation.
Our next step after improving sanitation is to provide mental support for girls who think, or are made to think, that education is not for girls. Starting with India, I would like to continue making an impact worldwide.
I can do this with the support of partners and like-minded friends I will be making in my journey. If you are one of them or like my approach, join me in making a difference for the girls in our world today!
